Kai Mayu is a German-Peruvian guitarist and singer-songwriter. Growing up in Berlin and countries like Costa Rica and Egypt, he was exposed to many musical influences at an early age. His name comes from the ancient language Quechua, still spoken in some Andean regions and by part of his family, and can be translated as "I am like the river". Like a river, Kai is guided by his surroundings and is always incorporating new influences into his music. Influenced by Blues and Indie Rock, he released his first single in 2018, followed a year later by his first EP, which landed him gigs at festivals like Meeresrausch and MIT DIR Festival. The following years saw collaborations with artists Kartini and Vincent Vedat, as well as with producer Cellxy. This is how Kai Mayu found his way into more pop-affine productions and began to musically incorporate his South American origins. The result is an interface between modern pop productions, Latin American soundscapes and soft, as well as distorted guitars. A pinch of John Mayer, in a cocktail of Chet Faker and Bad Bunny.
