Sydney singer-songwriter Huck Hastings met guitarist Sachin Burns ( Run Marlowe ) while working at a cafe/bookshop on Sydney’s Bondi Beach. They became fast friends through their mutual love for well-crafted pop songs, making it through the evening shifts by sharing their latest musical discoveries with each other. The songs that would eventually become the Hacky Sack EP began to take form on a staff trip to the south coast of NSW in which the pair spent their time climbing trees, hanging poolside and playing songs for the other staff members. Very much a lockdown project, ‘Exaggerating’ was recorded from the comfort of their respective bedrooms and mixed by Oscar Sharah. On the surface, their debut single - ‘Exaggerating’ is a light and dreamy exploration of unrequited love. If you listen closely, it also touches upon themes of depression, longing and the uncertainty that comes alongside growing up. Sitting atop the pulse of an electronic beat, Burns’ guitar sits ethereal and sundrenched, the perfect backbone to Hastings’ striking inimitable observations.
