Biography

Jean-Philippe MOREL Double Bass, Electric Bass, Arranger, Composer Born the 03.10.1971 in Marseille Jean-Philippe Morel is more than a bass virtuoso, he's also a talented composer, and a leader of fascinating projects. Self-taught musician and composer, he began his apprenticeship empirically between the CNCM of Nancy, the various formations in which he operates (jazz, rock, metal ...) and the National Higher Conservatory of Music in Paris. This unusual career offers him the chance to meet musicians from totally different worlds, allowing him to define a strong identity. Sideman with illustrious elders like Martial Solal and Eric Watson, active member projects mounted by adventurers contemporary jazz (Mederic Collignon, Yves Robert, Print, Kolkhöze Printanium, to name a few ..), he runs his label called madRecordz (Call the Mexicans !!!, GleizKrew, Quinte-Sens, Point Zero ...). He draws from his part a pathway refusing insistently the stylistic labels. Never exulting as much as when it becomes impossible to put a name on the musical content, he seeks above all that the "mixture" makes sense, He takes the listener towards unexplored sound universes, as for example with his big trash band "United Colors of Sodom" that he lead and for which he is totally committed.
