Biography

Charlotte by birth, Congolese by blood, WELL$ is a mosaic of identity and influences that are reflected in his command of a wide range of styles, from Trap, to Hip Hop, R&B and Pop.
His oeuvre started with MTSYD: Revenge of the African Booty Scratcher, which launched him into the spotlight, followed by his critically acclaimed project The Way I’m Living Makes My Mom Nervous, which secured his eminence in the N.C. music scene.
The journey that led him to this point started at age 14 when making music became a way to cope with his mom being held in an immigration detention center. Later, when dropping out of school meant an end to pursuing basketball, WELL$ starting honing his music talents.
Together with cousins Mike Tambashe and Alec Lomami, they created independent label Immaculate Taste. They quickly became intercontinental tastemakers in N.C. and Africa, and WELL$’s projects have been covered by Pitchfork, Fader, Complex, Pigeons and Planes, XXL and Noisey.
After making music began to feel like a 9-to-5, WELL$ took a hiatus, relocated back to Charlotte and recalibrated his relationship to music as a daily therapeutic. WELL$”s impending ascent is backed by multiple successful projects and an inexhaustible dedication to the craft. Now, North Carolina and beyond are poised to witness the reemergence of WELL$.
