Virginia native, Zooted Spitwell is bringing a fresh perspective to the hip hop genre. Recording since the age twelve years old, Zooted credits his god brother for sparking his creative juices at such an early age. As he began to grow as an artist and emcee, Zooted Spitwell looked to icons like Jay-Z for inspiration, creating a happy medium between conscious and gangsta rap within in his music. Zooted Spitwell’s journey as an artist has certainly had its ups and downs. “Last year before I started recording my album I was fired from my job and left homeless, I was fired on a Friday and my 5 hr session was Monday for my album. I ended up recording my whole album in that one session. I kept the sense of urgency in my album, I wanted it to be real.” With all the setbacks and challenges that Zooted has faced, he successfully released his first project entitled ‘Landon St. Zoo’ in June of 2016. In the future, Zooted Spitwell says he hopes work with the likes of SZA, Chainsmokers, Sampha, and Pharrell. Since the release of ‘Landon St. Zoo’, Zooted and his long time friends and collaborators Harley Mac and SmilesTF1 have been working hard on prepping for a follow up project, ‘Nefelibata’, thats expected to be due out in 2017. As for Zooted Spitwell, he says he’s looking forward to see where his music will take him. “My new EP is dropping sometime this year titled ‘Nefelibata’. Other than that I’m going to keep working, putting out music when I can, and see what happens.”
