Julian Mendoza is amorphous. Floating gracefully through the space between Hip-Hop, Soul, Jazz, and much more, the Massachusetts singer-rapper-songwriter has been likened to boundary-pushers such as OutKast, Saba, Smino, and Anderson .Paak. While these comparisons alone paint an eclectic picture, Mendoza’s versatility may be best represented by his wealth of genre-bending collaborative work. Artists he has shared songs with include Rei Kimura of Indie Pop-Rock band Moxie, Netflix’s “Rhythm + Flow” standout SeeFour, Grammy-nominated Dreamville affiliate DaVionne and underground Hip-Hop rising star Blvck Svm. His own latest body of work, the 14-track “Beneath My Wings,” features contributions from more than 40 musicians, writers, and engineers. His features on other artists’ music have bolstered his prestige. Most recently, his contributions to “If You Want It,” a single by rappers Lib and jev., gained him notoriety with more than 40,000 streams and multiple Spotify editorial placements, including the “Fresh Finds Hip-Hop,” "RADAR Canada," and “high-rise” playlists. “Gas,” a Funk Carioca track that features Mendoza, was also popular, amassing more than 20,000 streams since being placed on Spotify’s “Haitian Heat” playlist. Mendoza and his band have performed at renowned venues and festivals across multiple states, including Mercury Lounge in New York City, The Middle East in Cambridge, MA, The Cut in Gloucester, MA, UMass Amherst's UFest, and many more.
