Biography

MAMMALS Musik (simply known as MAMMALS) is an experimental, post-rock trio from Manila, Philippines, organized by guitarist Johnny Alegre and drummer Pat Sarabia, together with bass guitarist Allan dela Merced Malabanan (LUSTBASS), for the 2010 Japan Music Week event in Tokyo. The three assembled an eclectic mix of personal styles into what Sarabia vigorously alluded to as “a puzzle of genres”. MAMMALS independently issued a 5-song Extended Play (EP) album of their repertoire for the Tokyo showcase. The limited edition pressing was an exposition of powerful Drum-and-Bass matched by a pragmatic review of classic Jazz-Rock (with a “Free Rock” subtext) coupled by an early contribution from the visual artist, Sisa Lleses. Sarabia’s explorative drumming with Dela Merced’s heavy bass patterns, held together by Alegre’s chord-work and linear guitar solos, were the highlights of Mammals' music. Their first eponymous EP was released on October 28, 2010, for Japan Music Week.

Later recordings of the group in 2012 involved the participation of multi-reedman, Jeremy Danneman in New York City.
