 Pompela fka Belema was born in Warri and lived most of his life in Port-Harcourt city, Nigeria where he developed his love for music, playing the drums and being a chorister in church. There, he learnt the art of singing in harmony with other voices and it’s a skill he has integrated in his sound today. Pompela meaning ‘earth’s sample’ as he further explains in an interview, ‘we are all samples and samplers of earth’s vibrations’ because his sound is a mold of different genres he fell in love with growing up ranging from Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Funk and Afrobeat. Unknown if his sound will be ever defined, Pompela urges the listeners to keep an open mind and heart when it comes to listening to his music because he is never one to predict his next move.
