El Jay x Swizz (pronounced: El Jay and Swizz) is an Afropop music duo hailing from The Gambia, West Africa. They broke into music scene in 2016, part of the music group called Team Kunda with their hit song entitled One Love. They fused their different musical attributes with local Gambian instruments to produce unique head bopping sounds. This lead to a lot of recognition for the group, including being called ‘the future of Gambian music’ by Gambian music legend Ousu Njie Senor. Under Team Kunda from 2016 to 2019, they elevated to the top of Gambian music, launching their mixtape PENCHA BI in a sold-out event in 2017. Along the way making hit songs like Gambia Nice and One Love which got nominated as WMA Best collaboration song of the year 2017. They were also nominated Best New Artist of 2017. Later in 2017, their third group member quit the group leaving El Jay and Swizz as a duo. This prompted them to switch to a more favourable style, focusing on Afro fusion songs. They launched an EP in 2018 and to cap off an excellent year, made it to OMF Festivals (Gambia’s biggest musical platform). 3 WMA nominations in 2019 and after all the national success, El Jay and Swizz felt that the rest of the world needed to hear them. They focused on producing international sound and therefore rebranded, eliminating Team Kunda and switching to El Jay x Swizz. They released their first song and called it Blessings. They are now regarded as the next big thing hailing from The Gambia.
