Maat Saxophone Quartet is a Dutch/Portuguese ensemble, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. They are winners of the most prestigious classical music competition in Portugal “Prémio Jovens Músicos” (2018) and of the Dutch Classical Talent Award in 2022. Since their debut (2018), as students of the saxophone class of Arno Bornkamp, at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Maat is very interested to work on new music and collaborate with composers. The ensemble has commissioned more than 10 new works for saxophone from composers as Nuno Lobo, Arnold Marinissen or Kaveh Vares. In April 2020 they released their first CD “Ciudades” for the label 7 Mountains Records Amsterdam. According to De Luis- ter magazine, about their debut CD, “we can be brief over the playing of Maat: promising, devilishly good and heavenly contagious in all works.” In the season 2022/2023 Maat will collaborate with AYA Dans- theater company and choreographer Wies Bloemen, producing the show for children WILD 6+, with original compositions of the Iranian composer Kaveh Vares. In parallel, Maat will tour Austria as part of the Triolino production, together with Jeunesse Musik Erleben. In 2023 Maat will release their second CD Renascer with Portuguese guitarist António Carlos Costa, over traditional Fado music of the city of Coimbra. The CD will be recorded for the label 7 Mountains Records Amsterdam.
