Biography

”Jazz was more fun, when you could dance to the music”* This is more true than ever with Hammond organist Kjeld Lauritsens release “Jukebox jazz”. Presenting a groovy selection of tunes, old and new where every tune could be played on the Jukebox on a 45rpm record in a smoky bar or dancehall. The steady and danceable beat from (jazz)drummer Espen Laub and the world-class guitarplaying from Per Gade is a perfect canvas for Kjeld and his Hammond Organ. He presents the sounds and timbre in a timeless way inspired by great musicians like Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson, Jimmy McGriff or Dr. Lonnie Smith. “I have loved and played jazz for many years. But never recorded the most well known tunes like “Autumn Leaves” or “Have You Met Miss Jones”. I felt ready now, but I wanted to give the music a twist, to make the music ready for jukeboxes”, says Lauritsen, who added a couple of funky jazz tunes to the repertoire for the record. *Quote from one of the greatest Danish jazz musicians ever – the late, great violinist Svend Asmussen”
