Biography

Philipp Rumsch is a composer, pianist, sound designer and producer based in Leipzig. Between 2013 and 2020 Philipp studied jazz piano under the aegis of Michael Wollny and Richie Beirach at the University of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig. In 2016 and 2017 he refined his sound design and composition capabilities at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen with, among others, Niels Lyhne Lokkegaard and August Rosenbaum.    Philipp is working both as a pianist, composer, arranger, producer and engineer with artists, bands and ensembles from different genres. He has written music for theater, performances and installations. His work - which is documented on eleven releases -  is influenced by avant-pop, electroacoustic, contemporary classical and improvised music. In 2018 he received the Leipzig award for young jazz musicians funded by Marion Ermer foundation and was nominated for the Kathrin Lemke Scholarship for Young Jazz Improvisers. In 2020 and 2021 he was awarded with scholarships by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, Musikfonds, Goethe Institute and the German Orchestral Fund. His 2020 ensemble release µ: of Anxiety x Discernment received recognition around the globe and was praised by BBC, Electronic Sound and many more. Besides his creative output Philipp is teaching at the University of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig.
