CTZN is an American beat maker, record producer, instrumentalist, dj & occasional vocalist. His latest solo release continues the lineage of 2016 beat-tape whatcanisay? - with an aptly titled full-length follow-up: Whatcanisay?? (2021, Study Music Group). Around the early 2010’s CTZN co-founded The Understudies Crew - a rag tag collective of rappers, producers and DJs - who would inform the blueprint for the launch of the Study Music Group label. Between 2014-2016 he developed the cartoon band of sorts, thegoodnews. - a collaboration with illustrator Pete Cosmos, Del The Funky Homosapien, Po3, Juan Alderete & Taka Tozawa from Deltron 3030 as well as UK Hip Hop favorite Jam Baxter on the single & EP The Doors. The project was supplemented with two EPs ‘Debt’ and ‘Life’, as well as a collaboration with The Alien Tongue Trio on Flying Saucer Beats. In 2017 he would go on to executive produce and mix for California rapper Gee. on Single Series, Vol. 1 , also contributing production on the track Gutter (the jumpoff), inspiring the duo to team for The Last Days, and later an album, ‘Stone Cold’. After an invitation to release some music directly from the folks at Spotify, CTZN prepared the 'ought.um' single series, spanning 2018-2019, culminating with the release of all the instrumentals from the series as an album collection. Ought.Um Beats features 20 tracks of mostly short, concise lo-fi beats, jazz hop & alternative hip hop instrumentals.
