Birthe Kjær is a Danish pop singer whose career spans several decades and includes numerous Top Ten albums and hit singles. She has also found success as an actor, appearing in the films Revykøbing Kalder (1973), The Jut-Nuts I (1988), and Max (2000). Born on September 1, 1948, in Aarhus, Kjær made her recording debut in 1968 with "Arriverderci Franz," a chart-topping hit single that established her as a bona fide pop star. Throughout the '80s, she regularly competed in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and the annual Eurovision Song Contest, where she was chosen to represent her country in 1989 with the song "Vi Maler Byen Rød." After the turn of the century, Kjær remained active and released chart-topping albums like Længe Leve Livet (2001) and På en Fransk Altan (2003). Her 2004 anthem for the Denmark national football team, "Hvor' vi fra?," which saw her working with the electro-percussion group Safri Duo, achieved gold status. In 2005, she appeared in the second season of the Danish Dancing with the Stars, and in 2009, she hosted the final to pick the Danish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. Kjær has continued to perform and release material into the 2010s and beyond, issuing the country-leaning effort Lige fra Hjertet in 2015 and the Christmas album Juletid in 2022. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
