Biography

Numerous poems have been attributed to this French troubador who is thought to have wandered for a period of 20 years without any acknowledgement. He came to work under the protection of Boniface who led and died in the Fourth Crusade. Faidit was described as a rude glutton who was invovled in a number of intrigues and gambling affairs. The 68 poems ascribed to him include 14 with music. Among his songs are a "planh" one of which was dedicated to Richard the Lionheart upon his death. "Fortz causa" is one of the few extant planhs with words and music; accordingly, it is a cherished composition within the European musical legacy. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
