Ernest Stompie Manana, affectionately known in the music scene as ‘Bra Stompie’ has been described as one of the country’s greatest trumpeters having played with the likes of Charlie Mingus, Bob James, Wilson Mankunku, Hugh Masekela, Barney Rachabane. A founding member of The African Jazz Pioneers, Stompie has performed on renowned world stages in Montreal, New Orleans, New York, France, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Japan, Belgium, China, The United Kingdom and across the African continent. With over 60 years of contribution to the music industry he has been recognised both by the South African government’s Department of Sports Arts and Culture, and the industry as a whole, as a ‘Living Legend’.
