Ever since their debut EP Laid Back 4 Ever, Alexandria has journeyed into a new soundscape; a route that has been just that, laid back, and might continue that way eternally. Through the first full-length album Bossa, the bubbling eighties synths, the drum machines and the slick guitars have found their way through everyday life and life of luxury. Like a Roxy Music or an Orange Juice, filtered through a foggy train window on the daily commute. The band's oneiric foundation is still a steady one, particularly in lyrics that draw on the memory of somewhere else. The protagonist in the song Dad Rock has been in Poland and also in Paris. And with a Bacardi in his hand, like a true cosmopolitan man he exclaims that he hasn't felt this good in years. These lyrical moments bare some resemblance to songwriters like Donald Fagan, though put in a more carefree manner. Cynicism and melancholy forfeits to happy naivety. The song pushes on with the same confidence as a drunken daycare dad on the office party's dance floor, without the diminishing or ridiculing.
