Pronounced “Journal” alternative R&B/Indie Rock/Country artist Jvrnl chose the name in an effort to put his personal life experiences into the lyrics and music he releases. Born in 1991 as Josh Eli Mayfield and growing up in California’s Inland Empire, Jvrnl started singing at the age of four; the singer, songwriter’s first true recording experience was in a hardcore rock band where he and his bandmates flew to Greensboro North Carolina to record with a rock producer. Mayfield was also highly influenced by a range of artists such as Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire, Chester Bennington, Brian McKnight, and Johnny Cash.
