For more than three decades, Philippe Cohen Solal has made his mark as a self-taught musician, DJ, and producer. In 1995, he founded ¡Ya Basta!, his record label, which became a platform for his projects such as The Boyz From Brazil, Stereo Action Unlimited, and Gotan Project, formed in 1999. Gotan Project’s acclaimed album La revancha del tango sold over four million copies, and the group performed in more than 500 concerts worldwide. Never one to stand still, Cohen Solal crafted a country/bluegrass solo album, The Moonshine Sessions, which received international praise. His label also signed David Walters, Féloche, and El Hijo De La Cumbia. He co-wrote and produced Talé by Salif Keita and collaborated with Chassol, Laurent Voulzy, Horace Andy, and Angelique Kidjo. In 2021, he released OUTSIDER, an album with Mike Lindsay of Tunng, inspired by outsider artist Henry Darger. The following year, he released The Human Seasons, an improvisational album with pianist Gustavo Beytelmann. In 2023, he shared the EP Class of 89 with Keziah Jones and presented TANGO y TANGO, a musical with its original soundtrack at a major Parisian theater. Philippe Cohen Solal just released his new album 75010. On this project, he invites several artists from different musical traditions, such as Sarah McCoy, Judith Chemla or CharlElie Couture, to create global music with very local scene : his neighborhood, the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
