Biography

In Hansén’s home in Öjebyn, in the very north of Sweden there was a cafe frequented by music students from Framnäs, who played on their piano, and on Sundays the priest held the funeral service to the sounds of the pedal organ and hymns. In the church nearby there was a cantor, Wäinö Ruottinkoski, who called himself a composer, and the meeting with him when he showed some compositions made a great impression on Hansén. Other memories are the sensational discovery that the radio was playing pop music. Hansén wrote down the time and day in a notebook, because he thought there was a good chance that the next day or week there could be just as good music coming out of the device. A creative friend gave Hansén the idea to build his own instruments from cans, planks and old scrap. This was just before the punk rock era and it was the start of his own creative activities. Hansén started to write his own classical compositions at the age of 16. By the age of 30 he became an acknowledged composer by the release of his first string quartet ”Laterna magica” on Warner Music. After a turn in life, music had to take a backseat to new jobs and experiences, but Hansén returned to music in 2019, now also with a spiritual dimension which takes on a concrete meaning. Cecilia Gelland from Duo Gelland, describes Hansén: "You belong to those people who have the ability to convey the skinless, who can bear to be there long enough and who possess both the intelligence and the tools to do so."
