Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, British Columbia roots and blues singer/songwriter/guitarist Judy Brown, grew up listening to her mother singing Ukrainian folk songs. She began her musical career touring the Alberta oil patch, before moving to Toronto and meeting award-winning bass player Gary Kendall (Downchild Blues Band). She formed The Judy Brown Band and began performing at Toronto’s top music clubs, including The Horseshoe Tavern, Albert’s Hall and Harbourfront Centre. Brown appeared at numerous music festivals and on radio and TV and was a repeat guest performer at the early Toronto Blues Society’s Women’s Blues Reviews. Her band recorded a 3-song EP release of original tunes, produced by the late Billy Bryans (Parachute Club), and she also released a 4-song acoustic EP called I’m In Trouble, featuring award-winning guitarist Teddy Leonard (Fathead). After taking time away from performing to raise her two children, she co-founded The Wilmas, a 4-piece all-female blues rock group, before moving to Nelson, BC in 2016. In 2018 she self-released Say It, her first full-length recording of 13 original songs, co-produced by Kendall and Leonard and recorded, mixed and mastered by renowned engineer L. Stu Young (Prince, Downchild, Anne Murray, Alan Doyle and many more).
