Salil is a didgeridoo virtuoso, multi-instrumentalist, music producer and live-loop performer. He weaves stories of the natural world and culture, with melodic rhythms, calming acoustic sounds and innovative electronic music. At an early age Salil co-founded the rock band Ionica as a lead vocalist. In the late 1990s, he discovered the revered didgeridoo when the band Sirocco toured his hometown in Kathmandu. He quit seven years of journalism and became the first professional didgeridoo player of Nepal. In early 2000s he recorded and performed with the late rock sitarist Bijaya Vaidya, French legendary guitar hero Louis Bertignac and Nepal’s first fusion music ensemble Trikaal. Salil has played three featured concerts at Swizzeridoo, the Swiss didgeridoo festival, toured across Austria with Trikaal, done many fundraising concerts and theater in Asia, Europe and Canada for endangered wildlife species (rhinos, hornbills and Gangetic river dolphins). His voice overs and tracks are featured in numerous award winning documentaries and childrens' short stories on community radio. Salil is fascinated by mountains, mystics and singing bards. In 2012, he collaborated with G. Namjanstan (of the Hu Band) blending Mongolian throat singing, didgeridoo drones and Himalayan chanting styles. He has sojourned and performed the didgeridoo at 5,500m near Mt. Kailash, in lake Manasarovar at 4,590m and played for the year 2018's first new year sunrise at the Annapurna Base Camp 4,200m.
