Pistol Reef from Buffalo, NY uses club rattling hiphop-trap music to tell a story that’s long been waiting to be told. In the mid 90’s an unlikely friendship with record producer, Cochise, landed Reef onstage at only 6 years old to the cheers of the crowd. A young Pistol Reef decided to hone his skills in hopes of one day becoming a recording artist. But growing up in the Central Park neighborhood offered Reef and his brothers all the problems that you get in the poorest, high-crime cities in America. In 2013 his younger brother was given a life sentence while his best friend and producer, Studi-Mac was shot dead, leaving his crew at a complete standstill. Out of the ashes with a network of teen media innovators, Pistol Reef went viral. In 2015, millions of fans streamed the video for his hit song “Sheesh”. Just when his plan was coming together, Pistol Reef was arrested and sentenced to two years in jail. His efforts had once again been shut down but upon his release, Reef was contacted by Cochise and offered a recording deal. Currently Pistol Reef is recording his first album which he plans to release in early 2019. While Buffalo, NY makes headlines as the new mecca of East Coast hip-hop, there is still a rumble in the streets. Pistol Reef is the story of a new generation of street warriors for whom Hiphop is a life-or-death situation.
