Biography

A Spanish composer who primarily served in the courts of Naples for Alfonso V And Fernando I. Cornago was probably a member of the Franciscan order. Within the content of his musical arrangements Cornago was able to convey a saddened sense of sobriety as textual themes often contended with lost loves and amorous melancholy. Methodological approaches included departures from straight syllabic or melismatic tendencies. Cornago would gravitate between the two, use instrumental interludes, and write the tenor and highest voiced-part with the same rhythms a third or sixth apart. Diatonic harmony was familiar to him, as demonstrated by his music, outside the confines of strict cadences. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
