Biography

Vokalensemblen Sundbyberg (the Sundbyberg Vocal Ensemble) consists of music graduates, choral conductors and experienced choral singers. Central to its music-making are the importance of breathing, good intonation and passion. The choir aims to promote the development of newly written Swedish choral music for the church by means of commissions and collaborations with composers, and also to increase people’s familiarity with lesser-known works, not least those by Swedish composers. Much of the repertoire is a cappella, but the ensemble has also performed the great church works of sacred music that form part of the core repertoire, such as Bach’s oratorios or the requiems by Mozart and Brahms. The choir has also made a stage adaptation of Rolf Martinsson’s Lukaspassion (St Luke Passion, composed in 2012); at that time the ensemble was called Danderyds Vokalensemble (the Danderyd Vocal Ensemble). It has also performed a large, relatively unknown Swedish oratorio: the Christmas Oratorio by Andreas Hallén(1904). Vokalensemblen Sundbyberg is of the music activities of the Swedish Church in Sundbyberg. In Vaughan Williams’ Mass there are significant solo parts and in the newly written Swedish works there are some interjections featuring a soprano soloist. The soloists on this disc are freelancesingers who sing in Stockholm’s professional choirs – the Swedish RadioChoir and the Eric Ericson ChamberChoir.
