“Transcendent”, “Magnetic”, and “Phenomenal” are just a few words to describe Deon Brown. Originally from Pasadena, CA, the multidisciplinary singer/song-writer orchestrates bodies of work beyond the boundaries of R&B/Hip Hop. Seeking inspiration from his religious upbringing, Deon offers multi-faceted stories of identity, religion and politics centered around Blackness through sound. With comparisons to Kanye West, Frank Ocean and Sade, Brown launched his career with the highly anticipated album release of “HOME”, after his debut opening performance for Rico Nasty in 2021, with a performance film turning his healing into high art in real time. In his film, Deon explores various themes of family, home, police brutality, masculinity and queerness in this body of work that leaves all wondering what his next act will be. His recent album “HOME” is a breath of wind, soaked with intimate recordings and samples that provide their own worlds. From the deeply spiritual and ethereal “Ova the Rainbow (Live)” and “Affirmation 1”, to the punk and southern rap fragments of “Onyx”, there is an ambition—and audacity— in Brown’s work that feels hard to deny.
