Over a decade-plus of output, the Montreal band Le Couleur has blended lounge, alternative, and disco into a bright, shimmering French pop sound. The group’s releases are alternatingly groove-filled and languid journeys through humanity’s impulses toward the thrill of movement and the crash of excess. The group — founding members Laurence Giroux-Do (vocals), Patrick Gosselin (bass), and Steeven Chouinard (drums), with live members Philippe Beaudin (percussion, synths), Jean-Cimon Tellier (guitar), and Louis-Joseph Cliche (synths, vocals) — has brought its dynamic, irresistibly danceable live experience to hundreds of shows outside Montreal, including opening sets for Giorgio Moroder and Polo & Pan. Le Couleur has completed four European tours with dates in France, the U.K., and Italy, with additional notable appearances at SXSW, Liverpool Sound City, and Osheaga. The band has released two EPs and four albums to date, starting with their debut album Origami (2010) and then the EPs Voyage Love (2013) and Dolce Désir EP (2015). After that came the albums P.O.P. (2016) and Concorde (2020) — and Le Couleur’s newest album, the concept LP Comme dans un Penthouse (2023), is its most ambitious, compelling release yet.
