I’m Jonathan Kaz, a video game composer and artist. I come from México and studied musical composition in Guadalajara city, then went to Berklee to learn how to create soundtracks for video games and films. I made the OST and SFX for the visual novel Carpe Diem: Reboot, which was my first important work as a musician, then, also made the OST and SFX for the mobile game Shiftboy: Spikes and Fuel. I liked music since I was very early and listened to video game soundtracks in secret because it embarrassed me that they noticed the kind of music I liked. After that I started to play classic rock on the bass at 15 which made me go further and further into heavier music. Then I listened to Dance of Eternity by Dream Theater and it opened my mind to more complex and rich music. I still remember to this day how I felt the first time I heard that song. From that moment, music became something much more engaging and interesting, not just patterns which became predictable, but chaotic and complex, even one could say, awe inspiring. My music explores mainly the themes of pain, triumph and most importantly, beauty, through all its twisted means of being. While listening, I like to create a feeling of helplessness, feeling that you are somewhere else, somewhere inside you, touching the thin layers that all of us hide deep within ourselves, hiding the true raw nature of our nightmares. Music tells stories, and I’m just trying to create great stories for people to enjoy.
