Biography

With a focus on merging live performance and interactive technologies, British composer Amble Skuse has created a unique body of work that unites elements of electro-acoustic improvisation, modern composition, field recording, and folk music traditions. Through her own explorations and studies at institutions like Dartington College of Arts and The Royal Conservertoire of The Hague, she has developed an approach that is progressive in direction yet influenced deeply by the past. Skuse's works have been performed in the U.K. by the Red Note Ensemble, Mr. McFall's Chamber, and Rarescale Ensemble as well as in the U.S., China, and Slovakia. Among her many projects are Memory Lane, a collaboration with the Living Memory Association and folk singer Kris Drever and Tracks & Sleepers, a 5,000-mile train voyage residency. She was commissioned to write for the British ParaOrchestra and worked with Scottish folk artist Alasdair Roberts and early music pianist David McGuinness on the collaborative album What News, which was released by American label Drag City in 2018. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
