Clotilde Rullaud is a multifaceted artist whose work spans music, visual arts, and interdisciplinary projects. As an international artist, artistic director, vocalist, flutist, producer, and educator, she creates unique works that blend music, dance, and visual arts into innovative performances, concerts, and films. She released her first albums in 2007 in a duo with guitarist Hugo Lippi, and then in 2011 with the quartet In Extremis. After a long tenure on the New York jazz scene, she was named among the top three voices of the year in 2022 and 2023 by Jazz Mag x Jazz News. Her most recent album, Kananayé (2024), showcases her collaboration with a Burkinabè quartet, blending traditional West African music with modern elements and French chanson. Her duo Madeleine & Salomon, with pianist Alexandre Saada, achieved resounding success in France and internationally with the albums A Woman’s Journey (2016), which garnered 16 awards including 6 for best album in France and the United States, and Eastern Spring (2022), praised by critics with 4T from Télérama, 4 stars from JazzWise (UK), and “Editor’s Choice” from Jazziz (US). Clotilde is also the author, director, and composer of the XXY diptych, which explores gender injunctions. This project includes an experimental film, as well as a choreographic and filmic concert for 5 musicians, 5 dancers, and a film. Co-founder of Tzig’Art, she took on its artistic direction in 2011.
