Biography

Latvian chamber music ensemble NYX Trio was formed in 2011 by violinist Tatjana Ostrovska, pianist Ieva Sarja and flutist Anete Toca. One of the artistic priorities of NYX Trio is to introduce new audiences to classical music. Nowadays the audience of classical concerts is strictly formed and many people feel they do not understand the music well enough to belong to this elite group. NYX Trio is trying to break this stereotype by introducing new, more democratic approach to classical concert format – such as textual introduction to performed music with emphasis on interesting facts from composer’s lives that audience members can relate to; mixing different genres of performing arts music and theatre or poetry; performing in unusual venues- parks, art galleries, museums. Since its foundation, the trio has given regular concerts in Latvia as well as performances in London, Westminster Cathedral Hall and Gibraltar. Trio NYX has performed several chamber music programmes at the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra's Chamber Music Days. In autumn 2018 Trio NYX took part in the Latvian Centenary Concerts in Jersey and Guernsey. Trio NYX has collaborated and created concert programmes with artists from various artistic disciplines - Ebru artist Anda Kolosova, actress Karina Tatarinova, poet Madara Gruntmanis, composer and guitarist Matīss Čudars.
