Rumor has it the fourth wave of ska is finally breaking on the world and the french Mercurials seem eager to ride it with elegance. The 6 rude boys/girls from Montreuil (Parisian suburb) had foreseen the trend and worked undercover for a couple years now, spreading their sunny and highly addictive songs in Paris and surroundings, against the flow and unlike most of today’s bands. Digging in the American and Jamaican ska/rocksteady culture, they especially worship the 2 tone movement and British heroes such as Terry Hall and Paul Weller, whose songwriting and social commentaries have affected them much. Their lead singer Hugo adds un je-ne-sais-quoi of rocking fury that adds an irresistible energy during their shows. The band - all dressed in suits - runs a tight ship and has already supported acts such as The Slackers, Keith & Tex, The Selecter and Asian Dub Foundation. Recently signed on French quality label Kwaidan records and having recorded 4 tracks on the latest Nouvelle Vague record they are dead set on reviving the Jamaican music’s flame and setting sail toward new horizons.
