Biography

Mazgani is a singer-songwriter from Lisbon whose first album, “Song of the new heart” was released in 2007 to critical acclaim. His strong charismatic stage presence and delivery immediately established him as one of the most respected and sought after performers in his home territory. In 2009, the EP “Tell the People” was released and led to Mazgani’s first international approach, “Ladies and Gentlemen introducing… Mazgani”, which was released in the Benelux, Finland, Scandinavia, Canada and Australia. “Song of Distance” (2010) climbed into the top 20 charts in Portugal. Mazgani toured extensively in several European territories. These live performances were documented by Rui Pedro Tendinha in his road movie “The Road to Mazgani”. The documentary premiere was at the IndieLisboa 2012 Film Festival.“Common Ground”, his third album, was released in April 2013 and climbed directly to Number 2 in the iTunes Portugal Top 10. Recorded and produced in Bristol by John Parish and Mick Harvey the album was immediately considered an “instant classic” (Blitz Magazine, June 2013) and helped broaden his audience. “Lifeboat”, Abril 2015 included reinterpretations of songs by Pj Harvey, Elvis Presley, Cole Porter, Bee Gees, Lee Hazelwood, amongst others. The Poet’s Death was released in Portugal on September 29th 2017 by Sony Music Portugal. He has sold out venues all over Portugal presenting this record. The Gambler Song, is new record, was out on February 7th 2020.
