Bocuma (Martin Millar) is a producer and graphic artist based in Carlow, Ireland. Armagh born Martin originally started out on the early Amiga demo scene, programming and producing on tracker software such as OctaMED and ProTracker since he was 16. Early styles consisted of hard dance, techno, and even venturing into a more Drill n Bass sound. From 2001 onwards his style started to soften and was heavily influenced by the work from Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Brian Eno and the more melodic moments of Autechre. Working under numerous monikers he stuck with the Bocuma name (a heart on the sleeve reference to the Sandison brother’s song). Bocuma’s first phase of releases screamed its influences from the rooftops, with Summer Pylon and Among the Free honing in on this nostalgic soaked vibe. With Orphans of the Sky (2015) there was a more synth wave influence being developed. Looking to push himself further and develop his sound (before turning into just a copycat artist) Martin jumped head first into the indie game scene, already sound tracking promotional work for in house design companies, TV and short films this was a chance to explore new avenues. Working on soundtracks for Void Raiders, Story of a Cube, Blasted Road Terror and Starsceptre gave him a chance to explore and develop this sound. Bocuma continues to work closely in the indie game scene and is currently working on a spiritual follow up to the Orphans of the Sky album.
