Alena Baeva is one of the most exciting, versatile, and alluring soloists active on the world stage today. In 2024 she releases FANTASY – her first release for the Alpha Classics label – where she is partnered by celebrated Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko (2013 Van Cliburn Gold Medallist). Possessing an extraordinary memory and passionate musical curiosity, Baeva holds a vast and rapidly expanding repertoire of more than fifty violin concerti, including many lesser-known works of the violin literature. Chamber music holds a special place in her musical life, with noted collaborators including Martha Argerich, Daishin Kashimoto, Misha Maisky, and Lawrence Power, amongst others. A citizen of Luxembourg (her home since 2010), Baeva took her first violin lessons aged five, studying principally with renowned pedagogues Olga Danilova and Eduard Grach, and taking additional lessons with Mstislav Rostropovich, Boris Garlitsky, Seiji Ozawa, and Shlomo Mintz. She won the International Henryk Wieniawski Competition aged 16 (2001), and other major competitions. Alena Baeva plays on the “ex-William Kroll” Guarneri del Gesù of 1738 (on generous loan from an anonymous patron, with the assistance of J&A Beares).
