Strung Out are a long-running California band whose sound over the years has traversed skate punk, metal, and melodic hardcore. Debuting with a mixture of punk speed and metal guitar power, they were mainstays of the punk circuit for decades, playing hardcore anthems with anti-authority attitude on '90s efforts like their debut Another Day in Paradise and 1996's Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues. At the turn of the millennium, Strung Out began evolving with the more melodic approach heard on 1998's Twisted by Design and 2002's An American Paradox, the latter was their first to chart on the Billboard 200. Incorporating speedy riffs, darker tones, and mature introspection, they continued into the 2010s with Transmission.Alpha.Delta and the fiery Songs of Armor and Devotion. Returning in 2024 after a five-year gap, the band released their tenth album, Dead Rebellion. Formed in 1989 with a lineup featuring vocalist Jason Cruz, guitarists Jake Kiley and Rob Ramos, bassist Jim Cherry, and drummer Adam Austin (by the time Strung Out released their first 7", Austin had been replaced by Jordan Burns), the quintet signed with NOFX bassist Fat Mike's Fat Wreck Chords label in 1993 and issued a debut album, Another Day in Paradise, the following year.
