SMO is a one-of-a-kind artist with Southern charm, country lyrics, and a trap beat. He’s a laid-back good ole boy who loves cedar pine and having a good time. But John Lee Smith didn’t set out to be the King of the Kuntry, he is just living his childhood dream of making music for country people like himself. Nicknamed SMO by his childhood buddies, he grew up to be the first ever country rap artist signed to a major record label. SMO’s love for a variety of music began at an early age, influenced by his favorites like Jerry Reed and Johnny Cash to the Beastie Boys and Vanilla Ice. At a young age, SMO wrote poetry and played in the band. With his buddy DJ Orig, Big Smo blended country rhymes to urban beats. Country rap was born. Together, they wrote and produced over five albums in the Kuntry Kitchen on SMO’s farm before signing with Warner Nashville. But music isn’t his only passion. After years of filming his own music videos and YouTube series, television producers met SMO and knew instantly he was made for the camera. SMO starred in and produced two seasons of the hit reality television show Big Smo on A&E. These days, SMO spends most of his time on the road touring and performing old favorites as well as new tracks from his tenth studio album This One’s for You. From rapper to TV star, SMO can now add author to his professional portfolio. Check out his new autobiography , The Book Of Smo.
