It all started in 1997. That crucial year, I heard my first 3 hip-hop songs that I always remembered: The Notorious B.I.G’s “Hypnotize,” Busta Rhymes’ “Dangerous,” and LL Cool J’s “Loungin.” I thought the songs were cool but I didn’t have any interest in the genre. In 2001, I wrote my first rhyme called “Summer Time,” which was incredibly pop-influenced. From 1999-2001, I was listening to only pop music until my cousin Aree came over one day and flipped on an episode of 106 & Park. Jin was battling Brooklyn-rapper Skyzoo and said “I got fans across the country, Jin is who they feelin’/Last time he had a fan, it was spinning on the ceiling/. This is one of my first introductions to a punchline along with Lil Wayne’s song “Shine.” She coached us to start writing verses with punchlines and metaphors. As the years rolled on, me, my brother O.Live and my cousin created a group called Jerseyz Finest which later turned into R.E.A.L Music (Realizing Entertaining Advanced Lyricism in a Moving Unique Sound that Impacts Culture). Personally, my style is golden-age influenced, conscious, lyrical, and poetic.
