Josef Netzer is one of Austria‘s foremost composers in the early Romanticism. He is best known for his songs and his opera „Mara“. Born in the small village of Zams, Tyrol, Netzer received his first music lessons from his father. Afterwards he studied in Vienna with famous teachers such as Johann Gänsbacher and Simon Sechter. Netzer worked as conductor and teacher in Vienna (Theater an der Wien), Mainz, Leipzig and Graz (Graz Opera).
