South-London soulstress, poet, producer and multi-instrumentalist, alya isha pioneers ‘Nu World Groove’: Global Urban Jazz Funk; a hypnotic, rhythmic, potent nu sound for a nu world. Channelling her Indian Ocean ancestry, her first single ‘diaSpoRia’ is the launch of this nu sound: a call to step into our power and protect our land and peoples from exploitation, whilst celebrating being of the diaspora. The track is a collaboration with Reunionese producer Insula and has already been picked up by BBC Introducing amongst others. Born and raised in Japan, moving to Tooting, London and then Santiago de Cuba before returning to Brixton; the British, Indian-Mauritian and Swiss artist takes inspiration from her roots; adding her trademark hard-hitting political lyricism.
