SMIR is a rapper from a city outside of Toronto who discovered his passion for writing and recording songs during his 2nd year of University back in 2019-2020 through freestyling with J Kief and going to 'Tama Brown's home studio. After being in lockdown for a few months, he recorded his first track on his 2013 MacBook Pro with a Blue Snowball microphone. This song is she gotta wait (freestyle), which released a few months after WORK, in January, 2021. Around this time SMIR was listening to a ton of Smino and Saba, two of his favourite artists, and shortly after got into SoFaygo and TyFontaine. About 6 months later he dropped MYSELF, a 2 song EP showcasing his first songs with autotune. MYSELF, Mop 'n Stick, and she gotta wait (freestyle) are all engineered by Garth Tim, and the first song SMIR mixed is XXXATCH. After making music on his MacBook for over a year he would finally purchase a PC in October, 2021 where he starting using FL Studio and learned to mix and master his own music. Soon afterwards, he also upgraded his microphone to a Shure SM7B. After learning how to mix and master his own songs, upgrading his equipment, dropping a few singles, and scrapping many projects over the past year, he would end up releasing his first mixtape in 2023, WAVES. This mixtape showcases his versatility, with all the different voices, flows, and beats he uses. But everyone is still yet to hear how versatile he really is, so stay tuned for what he has to offer in the near future.
