Pop music soars at its highest when there’s an element of struggle. Whether it’s triumph over adversity, the unbridled joy of the dance floor in the face of sadness, or glorious melancholy of a huge chorus that is someone picking themselves up from their knees, pop works best when you can hear the artist fighting against the odds. That’s why great pop music endures – it’s serious about our feelings, whatever they are. The sincerity, the hope, the feeling of being lost in the moment – pop music is the greatest, no matter what form it’s taking. And so, to Melanie Mohlkert’s new solo project – CRONICLE. Previously, you’d find Mohlkert channelling all her energy and pain in Swedish band Tantrum to Blind – a punk-pop outfit who found themselves thrust into the limelight of touring, MTV, and the rest – and now, she’s doing her own thing, having learned a thing or two along the way. The spirit of rock is still there, but this time, married with future R&B, trap, and the history of all that sophisticated Scandinavian pop which moves through every great artist from that neck of the woods. CRONICLE is going to be loved by fans of Lykke Li, MØ, Robyn, Paramore, Banks, Tove Lo, and anyone who likes whip smart-pop that punches you square in the chest. It’s elevating, dramatic, deep, and everything you want from three fabulous minutes.
