Dr. Sandy Evans OAM is a distinguished saxophonist and composer, acclaimed for her contributions to contemporary jazz. With a career spanning over four decades, Sandy has collaborated with leading Australian jazz ensembles and performed globally in Europe, Canada, and Asia. She leads the Sandy Evans Trio and Sextet, and co-leads renowned groups like Clarion Fracture Zone and GEST8. As an international recognised composer, Sandy has received numerous commissions, crafting compelling works for jazz and improvisational ensembles. Notable compositions include a suite dedicated to the late saxophonist Bernie McGann and the critically acclaimed CD "RockPoolMirror." Sandy's passion for Indian classical music has led to captivating collaborations with Indian musicians, resulting in albums like Bridge of Dreams, lauded for its fusion of jazz and Indian classical elements. Her academic pursuits culminated in a PhD from Macquarie University, focusing on Carnatic Jazz Intercultural music, further deepening her understanding of musical traditions.
