Directs is a musical artist based in Derby. He started making music in 2005 at the age of 15 with a local grime crew performing sets and recording songs in the local Youth Centre studio. 
 His inspiration came from watching school friends gather round in a circle at break times and rap. Rather than being on the outside looking in, he decided to write his own lyrics and he found he liked it and could use it as a way to express himself without getting into trouble. Directs tends to lean into the genre of grime but has showed his versatility by featuring on hip hop tracks. At first listen most people would describe him as a conscious rapper, but if you ask him, he’d call it “Journal music. I aim to allow myself to be vulnerable with it and explore what I think and feel about the happenings in the world and on my journey. That way I hope to encourage men to find an outlet or create a safe space for themselves to be able to vulnerable.” 
 So far Directs has released one solo project Entitled “Notes to Self” released on August 7th, 2019. The 6 track E.P. Is available on all streaming platforms. 
 Directs is also part of the derby based collective @TRUENT. Together they have released an E.P by the title “TRU 2 DA Word”. The project has 7 songs and was released on all streaming platforms on January 27, 2021.
