De Rigueur is the eclectic electric chillout nom de plum of Brooklyn based DJ and music producer Mike Reger. The alias De Rigueur was conceived in the late 90’s, during Mike’s time as a founding member of Avatars of Dub on Thievery Corporation’s Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL) label. It was a side project name to explore styles that didn’t fit the repertoire of the band. It was a sarcastic pun on his own name that quickly stuck and became Mike’s de facto DJ moniker instead. When Avatars parted ways in the early 2000’s, It was a series of bootlegs and an extremely limited self-released EP of originals made mostly for DJing purposes, Escape Dome City, that established De Rigueur’s own signature cinematic, retro futuristic chill out sound that fused ambient, lofi hiphop, dub, acid jazz, cosmic funk and beyond. De Rigueur has released records for labels like Citrona Records, Kraak/Timewarp and Mike’s own various boutique labels in between stints with his many other projects.
