Joseph Akins is a composer, pianist and educator. His solo piano debut from 2007, Masterpeace, caught the attention of many folks including Whisperings Radio programmer David Nevue. The 2009 album, Spirit Touch, was included in Kathy Parson’s Top Albums of the Decade and enjoyed popularity on Music Choice Soundscapes. In 2011, A Piano Christmas earned album of the year at SoloPianoChristmas.com and the same happened for Castle Moon in 2015 with Enlightened Piano Radio (the 2013 album A Southern Sun was nominated for ZMR Piano album of the year). In 2017, Into the Flow, debuted at #7 at Billboard and in 2021, Dream World, received Whisperings Solo Piano Album of the Year. In 2022 and 2023, Joseph has released several collaborations with flautist Sherry Finzer including the album, Eatherbeat. In addition, singles are being released for the upcoming album "Songs My Father Played". Joseph can be heard on albums from other artists including Unita (his wife) and Bill Leslie. In addition to composing and performing, Joseph teaches music production as a full professor at Middle Tennessee State University.
