Biography

JenMarie’s journey as an artist is one of passion and resilience. After a decade-long career in journalism, she left behind the familiar to follow her true love—music. Inheriting her uncle John Askew’s gospel catalog in 2012 was a turning point, sparking her quest to honor his legacy and pursue a music career. Uncle John’s song, “He’s Worthy,” was a gospel hit in the early '90s, and his influence loomed large over her ambitions. Moving to Atlanta, the city where her uncle’s career flourished, JenMarie found the inspiration and environment she needed to carve her path in R&B. Her debut single, “Livin’ Life,” produced by Atlanta-native EpiQ “The Illustrator,” marked the beginning of her musical journey. JenMarie’s music is deeply personal, reflects her own story, and encourages others to follow their dreams regardless of societal expectations. “Every time I wake up, it’s a chance to try something new,” she says, embodying the spirit of continuous reinvention and passion that defines her artistry. Drawing inspiration from iconic voices like Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston, JenMarie’s work is a testament to her belief in living authentically and empowering others to do the same.
