I am Josh Whelchel, a composer, songwriter, and producer. My music is best described as haunting, ethereal, and mystical. I write Dark Opera music. I'm best known for producing orchestral and electronic music for games with Mojang, Witching Hour Studios, and Adult Swim Games. In 2016 I scored Masquerada Masquerada: Songs and Shadows featuring performances by John Robert Matz, Kristin Naigus, Patti Rudisill, and Ryan C. Connelly. The Cincinnati based choir was led by conductor Isaac Selya. I wrote music for The Spirit Engine series by Mark Pay. The lengthy scores for The Spirit Engine - Original Soundtrack, and The Spirit Engine 2 - Original Soundtrack call back to Japanese RPG soundtracks in big ways, being primarily produced using tracking tools such as Modplug Tracker and ReNoise. I studied Composition at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later co-founded Loudr in San Francisco. I'm featured as a songwriter on other releases, such as Monolith (Feat. Amanda Appiarius) on the FEZ release FZ: SideZ, Power of the Meat (Josh Whelchel Remix) (feat. Melinda Hershey) on the Super Meat Boy soundtrack, and So Blue (Pipe Dream Remix by Josh Whelchel feat. Amanda Appiarius) on the VVVVVV release, PPPPPPowerup. For more information about me, check out my website at joshwhelchel.com.
