Biography

D.D. Jackson is Canadian-born, NYC-area-based, two-time Emmy-winning (5x-nominated) and Juno-winning composer/producer/jazz pianist who has recorded 14 albums of mostly original music as leader or co-leader (including two for the major label BMG). His new “Poetry Project” recording (supported by a Canada Council grant) was released on Sept. 6, 2024 and features his song settings of a diversity of Canadian poets’ lyrics, with instrumentation ranging from full orchestra to a rhythm section that includes Snarky Puppy drummer Larnell Lewis, as well as a total of eight vocalists (including Jackson himself). He has also performed, recorded, and toured around the world with diverse artists such as saxophonist David Murray, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and Questlove and Tariq Trotter of The Roots, and previously composed two jazz-influenced operas, including “Québécité” (based in part on the story of his African American father and Chinese mother).
