Janio Abreu is a bright star among the vast constellation that is the modern generation of Cuban musicians. Talent and passion spill over when he's playing, either clarinet, tenor sax or flute, and accompanied by his band Aire de Concierto. Born in Havana in 1984, Janio followed the path of a rigorous musical education and graduated with honors from the Instituto Superior de Arte. Since then he was attracted by the freedom of jazz and was highly influenced by great Cuban musicians like Paquito D'Rivera and Carlos Averhoff; and also by jazz titans like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Sonny Rollins. In 2007 Janio founded Aire de Concierto, and a few months later they won the JoJazz 2008, a prestigious International Jazz Festival for Young Musicians held in Cuba. This moment marked the beginning of a flourishing career which included concerts and tours in Cuba and other countries, recording albums and collaborating with well-known musicians. A remarkable moment in Janio's career was when he met Victor Goines during a visit to Havana. A shared love for jazz made them friends; and Victor his mentor. Playing together during the Chicago Jazz Festival in 2017 was an amazing expression of the fruits of this relationship. After a year of musical exchange in the United States, the album "Ida y Vuelta" in 2017 was recorded. And in 2018, as part of the Jazz Plaza International Festival, he and Victor Goines shared the stage to perform a live concert titled "Our Musical Heritage".
